Judo 101 - Introduction to Judo

Spring 2008

The Northeastern University Judo Team is proud to offer a non-credit instructional Judo class provided as part of Northeastern University Opportunities (NU-OPPS). Judo, or the way of Gentleness, an ideal form of physical exercise and a reliable system of self-defense, was specially created from traditional Japanese martial arts. Judo was designed by Professor Jigoro Kano over a hundred years ago to reflect the concept of maximum efficiency in the use of physical and mental energy. This course will help students discover the principles, techniques and spirit of this popular martial art which is so adaptable that it has succeeded in transforming into an Olympic sport.

The class will also be covering some pinning techniques (Osae-Komi-Waza) and grappling techniques (Katame-Waza) used in the art.
